Niti Marcelle Mueth is an interdisciplinary visual artist/graphic designer/cultural mediator/art-therapy practitioner based in Tio’tia:ke/Mooniyang (Montreal) born (here) in 1995 to Haitian and Cameroonian immigrant parents. Her practice explores memory, intergenerational narratives, and gentle forms of resistance, drawing from a background in graphic design, multimedia, textile printing, and art therapy. Working through drawing, illustration, textile printing, graphic design and animation, she creates visual languages that weave together personal histories, archives, and collective experiences, shedding light on voices that are often overlooked.
Alongside her studio practice, she develops research focused on narrative and community-based forms, notably through projects that bridge art and social justice. She is the co-founder of Learning Loop, a grassroots initiative that offers free creative and educational workshops supporting expression, imagination, and cultural transmission within racialized and underrepresented communities.
Her work was recently presented in a solo exhibition at Maison de la culture de Côte-des-Neiges and in a group show at Livart in 2024, as well as internationally in a solo exhibition at Oomachi Gallery in Japan in 2023. In 2021, she received the Engaged Artist of the Year award and accompanying grant from the Gala Dynastie and the Conseil des arts de Montréal.
My experience working with many different people from diverse backgrounds has allowed me to empathize with others in regards to representation. I'm interested in the power of art and design to create narrative and meaning. While professional studies taught me how to design "aesthetically pleasing" visuals, products and experiences, the ones that really made an impression on me are the ones that helped others feel empowered and connected. I believe that there can be great beauty in representation, specifically when it's done by someone who knows and understands the space they are representing.
